About The Zeta upsilon chapter of UNT
Our History
In spring 1972, the Grand Board of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. approved the SW Province petition to charter an undergraduate chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi on the North Texas State University (now University of North Texas) campus. The Grand Board’s action was the culmination of Brothers Marion E. Wilson and Dean Harve King’s collective efforts to bring the fraternity to the NT campus.
The University of North Texas Chapter, the Zeta Upsilon Chapter of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., officially chartered on March 20, 1972.
● The chapter’s official name: The University of North Texas Chapter, the Zeta Upsilon of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated.
● Zeta Upsilon is the 162nd undergraduate chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi and the eighth undergraduate chapter chartered in the state of Texas.
● T. B. Allen, the 12th SW Provincial Polemarch, presided over the chapter chartering ceremony.
● Marion E. Wilson, the first Zeta Upsilon Polemarch, along with Dean King, the graduate advisor, was also in attendance.
● The chapter was chartered during the administration of the 20th Grand Polemarch of Kappa Alpha Psi, W. Thomas Carter, whose signature is on the chapter’s original charter.
● The Fort Worth (TX) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi served as the first advising alumni chapter to the Zeta Upsilon chapter.
● Kappa Alpha Psi became the third black Greek letter fraternity established as an NT student organization.
